Tuesday Morning Reads – 1/6/15

Stock futures are recovering from their sharp decline yesterday, which was the fourth straight down day for the markets.  2015 is off to a terrible start, and many think that this is a sign of things to come.  A bear market?  The talk of one is back again.  Last August and October were supposed to be the start of a new bear market.... those calls didn't work out too well.  It's a new year, what better time to wipe the slate clean of previous failed market calls than a few days into 2015.

The Internet Bubble, The Housing Bubble, Now The Oil Bubble?

With Oil falling last year I posited the possibility that this decline could have some pretty dire consequences.  While cheaper gas prices are a boon for consumers, what are the long term consequences of the 50% 7 month collapse in oil prices?  Is this another bubble bursting that bears watching and will it lead to  a stock market collapse?  I think it would be naive not to explore this possibility.

Monday Post Mortem

Stock futures opened lower Sunday night, bounced into positive territory and then sold off as the European markets opened for trade.  It was a bloodbath in many names as the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped over 300 points.  Crude oil plunged to new 5+ year lows amid a glut of supply.  Bonds and the US Dollar were strong, as the VIX moved over the key 20 figure.

With today's sell-off already in the books, what will tomorrow bring?
